WMATA Andrew's Federal Central Bus Garage

This new Bus Maintenance Garage for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is being provided as a design-build project. The project consists of a 293,000 square foot maintenance building with a 17,600 square foot mezzanine, and a separate 17,700 square foot fuel/wash building. The building is designed to serve the entire WMATA bus fleet of 175, will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and provides bus and support vehicle maintenance, rehab, and body and paint repair, as well as parking, fuel, and washing facilities. The design incorporates lighting control and other features, and is submitted as LEED Gold to the U.S. Green building Council.

Mona provided extensive site ductbanks, grounding, and lighting, medium and low voltage switchgear and distribution, diesel generator system sized for 90% of the building, UPS systems, interior lighting and lighting control, fire alarm, gas detection, security, public address, intercom, data, and Cable TV systems. Design management of the engineer and the design of fire alarm, gas detection, and other low voltage systems, was performed by Mona’s in-house design group.
